Mount Dora School of Ballet presents…Snow White


The Mount Dora School of Ballet (MDSB) has a long-standing tradition of entertaining audiences while providing a high caliber, enjoyable experience for its students and audiences alike.  This standard of excellence has placed MDSB in the wonderful position of having sold out nearly every performance it has ever done. 

This year the annual end-of-the-year Spring Performance will be MDSB’s interpretation of the classic story of “Snow White”, featuring all 145 dancers from MDSB, plus some guest artists from Orlando Ballet. 

Instead of showcasing individual classes, MDSB does a full ballet performance. Last year, it was Coppelia (a Pinocchio type fairytale), and it was as if I was watching a professional ballet company on the stage, it was extremely well done.

Artistic Director Kathryn Wheeler and the other instructors encourage students understanding of commitment, hard work, responsibility, the value of discipline, and a passion for the arts.  These life skills will contribute to the students development and ability to succeed inside and outside the studio. Students gain invaluable experience from studio instruction, preparation periods, rehearsals in the theatre, and from full production performances both in the winter with Nutcracker, and the end of year spring performance.


Mount Dora School of Ballets Spring Performance will be held at Lake Sumter State College, May 20th & 21st, 2017 at 3pm.  Advance tickets are available for purchase at Mount Dora School of Ballet Monday – Thursday 3:30pm-6:30pm (4280 N Highway 19A Unit 4, Mount Dora 32757), they are $20.  If tickets are still available on the day of performance, they are $25 at the door.

The Holy Land Experience Christmas Party Cake

Wow! This sucker was huge!  I had so much fun making this cake, but it was such a challenge to get it done. Between decorating and covering this cake in fondant, and helping my husband manage a moving sale we were having that morning, I got it done. I bought an 18" round cake pan and it didn't even fit in my oven (I used a towel to cover the oven and keep the heat in while it baked), and it didn't fit in my fridge once I put one layer of fondant on it! I ended up putting the cake in a box in the garage - thank you God, it was freezing cold outside (47 degrees fahrenheit) that day and I could do that. Ballet Dancer Survival Kit

'Tis the Season....Ballet performance season that is. My boys and I already practically live at the studio, we are there 5 days a week just for their regular classes; but now that we are 3 weeks away from our Spring Performance of "Snow White", my boys have added rehearsals. Mom Bod Overhall

I am a mom. My body shows the track marks of carrying two babies to term.  My weight is not what it once was before these precious gifts from God. It is time to change that, to put myself first for an hour or so a day. My babies are not babies anymore, they are teenagers now, on the cusp of manhood. Where did the time go? It feels like just yesterday that I was holding them in my arms, breathing in their baby smell, watching them sleep. I always put my family first, that is what a wife and stay at home mom does. But it is time that I get healthy and happy with my body again.  Don’t get me wrong, my body is amazing, it is a survivor, a fighter and I am immensely proud of that.  However, my body has become the “Mom Bod” that I hoped it never would.
